Juhua Dao 菊花岛 The Island of Fishing Nets
Juhua Dao Island Xincheng, meaning Chrysanthemum Island, is situated about 9 kilometers from Xincheng. You get there by boat from Xincheng but be warned: it can be quite a choppy ride if the sea is rough.
The one thing you notice when you visit Juhua Island 菊花岛, 9 kilometers off the Liaoning Coast near the walled town of Xingcheng 兴城, are the fishing nets.
They are everywhere; and it seems that the entire population of Juhua Dao 菊花岛 dediate their time to fixing them.
Walking Round
Walking around the island You’ll find yourself tripping over the nets and any photo you take, the nets will find a way of appearing in your photo. Here are just a few of the ones we took.
In the coming weeks we’ll be adding some more photos of the island’s other attraction. The political slogans painted on the walls of the fishermen’s houses like the ones you see at the back of the photo above offer quite an insight into how the Chinese government tries to inculcate morals to its population.
Juhua Dao Island has some basic accomodation and a few seafood restaurants. However, there really isn’t that much to do and the beaches aren’t anything to write home about. It’s worth a quick visit, but if the weather is bleak you will find yourself back at the port waitng for the next ferry back to Xincheng.
